4.0 out of 5 starsConvenient, and apple quality.
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 14, 2023
As far as noise cancelling goes, I have always stuck to Bose products. They were some of the first to even offer noise cancellation. Any lead from being early is gone now though, and strictly comparing airpods pro and the QC II earbuds, they are about equal with differing strengths and weaknesses.

For sound quality, they are almost indistinguishable to me. Bluetooth earbuds are not known for their sound quality in either case, so both are fine for what they are. No clear winner in this category.

For comfort, Airpods win. They are smaller and lighter and still manage to stay in my ear-hole just as well as the QC-II buds.

For convenience, it's sort of a toss-up; the winner depends on what you want. If you want perfect integration with your iPhone with no third-party apps, plus find my (device) iPhone compatibility, Airpods are the way. If you want (in my opinion) better touch controls and a little more control over ANC besides just "transparent" or "passthrough", the Bose buds win.

For portability, they both have cases that pretty easily slip into that smaller pocket of Jeans most everyone has. The difference in case size is significant, however; Airpods easily win this category. The case is both smaller and thinner while still being clearly higher quality than the Bose bud case. In my case the size does not matter because they both fit with my car keys in that pocket, but YMMV.

For quality, apple (of course) is the clear winner. The construction of their products, as always, leaves little to be desired from pure quality points of view. The case has a metal hinge and is generally much more solid feeling, with no wobble in the lid nor looseness to the chassis. The Bose bud case, while larger, feels more flimsy in general, having some play in the lid and a mostly plastic construction. There may be a metal pin holding the lid in place, but without breaking it I can't verify that, so for all I know it is all plastic construction. The buds for both are fine, but Apple still seems to have higher quality construction if only by a small margin.

As for battery life, on a single charge neither of them can make it through the work day without returning to the case at least once. Perhaps one has more case battery than the other, but I have never run out of case battery. YMMV

Last but not least, the noise cancelling ability. This was an unexpected tie, both are better or worse in some scenarios. Apple buds excel particularly at passthrough of your own voice; self-voice will sound more natural than I have ever heard for passthrough on ANC devices. They also seem better able to adapt to external sounds while in passthrough, the main example I noticed being when I get in my car and shut the door. When wearing the Bose buds in passthrough, when I shut the car door behind me full noise cancelling kicks in for a couple seconds, which is a little annoying; the airpods do not do that. If passthrough is your main concern, Airpods win. When it comes to ANC and sound isolation though, the Bose buds win by a narrow margin. They seal better in the ear thanks to their larger size, and the overall noise cancellation seems slightly better than the Airpods.

Overall neither is clearly better than the other. I have both and switch between them at a whim, which to me is telling that this largely comes down to user preference. Do you want a smaller case with better construction and passthrough? Airpods win. Do you want better noise isolation and (presumably) better battery life? Bose wins. Is price the deciding factor? The winner would then go to whichever is on sale.

3.0 out of 5 starsNoise cancelation works well. Transparency mode does not.
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 12, 2022
My use case for these is as daily wear headphones, particularly while working in an office. I have AirPods Gen 1 and I'm quite fond of them, but I'm also a fan of active noise cancelation. I am a pilot and I've used headsets with active noise cancelation (mostly Lightspeeds) for about 15 years now (I was an early adopter) and I also use electronic hearing protection while shooting. The AirPods Pro 2 are significantly cheaper than aviation headsets but roughly in the price range of shooting headsets so I thought I had a pretty good idea what I was getting into with these - i.e. ear buds that offered an active noise cancelation that was not necessarily useful for hearing protection (they have no rating) but offered something like the active noise cancelation I'm used to from my Lightspeed aviation headset (in noise canceling mode) and something like the noise reduction with voice passthrough that I'm used to from my Sordin shooting headset when in transparent mode.

Noise reduction mode delivers shockingly well. It does a very good job of shutting out ambient noise. Someone watching TV in the background? Significantly muted. HVAC/fan/PC noise? Gone. They're good enough that I'm probably going to wear them in my car since my Apple Watch informs me that my car is a loud enough environment that I'm vulnerable to long term hearing damage (it's a convertible, the exhaust is quiet but there's a lot of wind noise and the top doesn't do much to quiet other people's exhausts) and despite lacking a rating the rubber earpieces offer some passive noise reduction and the active may well be enough to take the edge off the poorly muffled motorcycles that seem to love to pace me right next to my left ear for miles on end.

Update: Not sure whether they’ve quietly updated their algorithms or just adjusted the default tuning in the background, but transparency mode is now usable. It still ought to support volume control, like active electronic hearing protection does. /Update

Transparency mode, on the other hand, is a massive disappointment. The idea behind transparency mode is, essentially, a not-rated-for-hearing-protection version of what you get with a pair of Sordins except instead of passive noise reduction with ambient noise passthrough (with processing to filter out sharp sounds, normalization, and clipping and filtering of loud sounds) and a volume control, so that ambient non-noise sound can be anywhere from significantly muted to amplified enough to cut through a pair of passive ear plugs worn under the electronic muffs. You sort of get a version of that. The AirPods Pro 2 add active noise reduction on top of it. Unfortunately, it's tuned very poorly. The default transparency mode plus "active transparency" perform something like what a pair of Sordins does in terms of clipping maximum volume but there's no volume control. You get a volume level that is basically slightly louder than ambient but with maybe some reduction of low range sounds and, crucially, a significant boost to mid and particularly high range sounds. HVAC noise is actually worse in transparency than it is when you're not wearing the AirPods at all. It also has an extremely unfortunate effect on keyboard sounds. A typical keypress is sort of a dull, low, clack. The default transparency settings turn it into a louder, shriller, sharper click. My keyboard, which I never really thought about before, is actually quite unpleasant in transparency mode. In general, the default transparency mode is probably something one would only use for very short periods such as a temporary interaction with someone (e.g. long enough to order coffee). For longer term use it's unpleasant enough that you would simply pull the AirPod out rather than switch modes. This is unfortunate as it largely undermines the entire sales pitch for the AirPods Pro. They aren't something you could put in and leave in with transparency enabled while on a walk with a friend and carry on a conversation with someone while preventing your ears from being hurt by a passing vehicle that's had its exhaust system compromised or wear in the office listening to music and switch to transparency mode to have a conversation with some coworkers. It amplifies background noise (again, keyboards become particularly unpleasant) enough that you're much better off simply taking them out, exactly as you would have with the old first gen airpods.

There are custom adjustments for transparency (inexplicably buried a couple layers deep in accessibility settings rather than in the AirPod configuration menus) and they... help. Sort of. It's possible, with some fiddling (the best settings I found were maximum ambient noise reduction, zero amplification, and darkest sound settings, conversation boost disabled) to configure transparency such that it actually does a much better job of muting unwanted ambient sounds (you can get rid of the HVAC again) and retaining clear voice passthrough and even acceptable music passthrough, but even after spending an hour or so playing with all of the available configuration options I cannot find one that allows me to leave transparency enabled while typing. It just makes keypresses to shrill, sharp, and loud. There's a pretty significant amount of processing power built into these for their tiny size, though, so hopefully Apple will be able to update their algorithm such that you can wear them while using a computer. Honestly, given that Apple sells computers, it's kind of shocking that they were released in this state, but here we are. (It's worth noting that part of my disappointment comes from the Sordins I have being totally usable in similar situations (but lacking bluetooth and also obviously being industrial hearing protection) and I also have a set of Walker's digital hearing protection that does have Bluetooth and is much better at ambient sound passthrough (at half the price) but having disappointing sound if you want to listen to music on them.

tl;dr Buy them if you have an iPhone and want good active noise cancelation in a very compact package with good battery life, and decent sound for music. If you're buying them as something you could wear to get, essentially, some background noise reduction and loud noise reduction in an office setting while still being able to talk to coworkers with them in - their weird tendency to actually amplify certain unpleasant frequency ranges in transparency mode makes them poorly suited for this application.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great headphones, way better than the 1st gen airpods pro
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 21, 2023
Style: EarbudsVerified Purchase
A while back I was looking for a set of noise cancelling headphones because I was going to take an international flight. I bought a couple pairs, including the 1st generation Airpods Pro. The second generation came out at almost the same time so I returned the 1st gen and spent the extra money to get these.

And wow, what a difference. They fit great, these are the only earbuds that ever have fit me (including the 1st generation airpods pro). They come with multiple ear tips too, and I've been able to find a combination that suits me.

The gimmicky features aren't that interesting to me, like the spatial audio and taking a scan of your ear or whatever. These are also supposed to auto switch between devices, that's never worked right (but really I prefer to switch manually anyway). I don't have a device with a u1 "find stuff" chip, so I haven't tried that. Fortunately I haven't needed to either.

What I like is the sound quality, which is very good, it has a rich range of highs and even somehow manages to get some pretty good bass in the lows. I also like the portability, and (compared to the first gen) I love the silly lanyard hole so I can put a strap on the case so I don't drop it.

But what really shines is the noise canceling. I find better than all of the over the ear ANC headphones I've tried, including some of the very expensive Bose and Sony headphones. And even in the case where it might not be quite as good, the fact that they are tiny and portable makes the utility so much higher. I've used these when using power tools, on airplanes, on trains, the freeway, or sometimes when my kids are talking (kidding (sort of)). The noise canceling is actually good enough that if someone is standing right in front of you and talking at a normal level, you almost can't hear them at all. And in extremely loud environments like airplanes, these cut the noise down better than some of the noise-cancelling headsets made for pilots and crew that I've used.

The transparency mode is also extremely good, way better than the first gen. And, it's a great deal more comfortable wearing these with transparency mode on (it makes my ears feel less "plugged").

Making calls is good too. Other people say that they didn't know that I was on headphones.

These also don't get "warm" in my ears either, something that I've noticed with other earbuds and over-the-ear cans.

The battery life is also fine. The specs say 4-5 hours or something, but that's plenty. Even on a long flight I usually won't be wearing them the for more than a couple hours at a time.

Tip: If you have an Apple Watch, you can charge the Airpods' case using the Apple Watch charger. I recently discovered this by accident.

If I had a complaint, it's that sometimes I'd prefer that they had a physical connection to a wire that was around my neck, so I could take them out for a sec without worrying about dropping them. That and they are quite expensive if all you want to do is listen to music. But if you don't mind the price tag and want an extremely nice set of earbuds, these are it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Put my Sony WFs to shame!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 13, 2023
Style: EarbudsVerified Purchase
Okay, so I did put my Sony WFs to work for a year or two, but wow, I really wish I had made this switch sooner.

First, the Airpod Pros fit soooo much nicer and weigh so much less. I was CONSTANTLY pushing the Sonys back into my ears and tried about 3 different ear tips to make it work better, but it was just impossible due to the design and weight. The Airpods feel so secure and much more comfortable.

Second, utility. With the Airpods I can do volume, siri, noise cancelling and control music playback (skip, play/pause, reverse). On the WFs you can only choose 2 options at a time! Just why? So if I wanted noise cancelling controls, then my only other option was volume or playback controls, which meant I had to constantly go back to my phone and do things. Now with the Airpods I can do it all from the very easy to use earbuds sticks, which are also much easier to control than the smacking of your ear Sony WF approach.

OH also really appreciate that the case has a physical pairing button. Sony does not do this for any of their earbuds as far as I know, and since I only pair a new device every month or so it's a pain to remember what kind of random motion I need to do

Great job Apple, I witch I had gotten these so much sooner

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 8, 2023

Sound quality is also excellent on the AirPods Pro, with many users praising the earbuds for their clear and detailed sound reproduction. Bass is punchy and tight, while the midrange and treble are well balanced and not overly bright or harsh. While the sound quality may not quite match that of some high-end wired headphones, it's certainly among the best you can get from a pair of wireless earbuds.

The AirPods Pro are also incredibly easy to use, thanks to Apple's tight integration with iOS devices. Pairing is quick and simple, and the earbuds automatically connect to your device when you take them out of the charging case. The earbuds also feature touch controls, allowing you to adjust the volume, skip tracks, and activate Siri with just a few taps.

The battery life of the AirPods Pro is also impressive, with up to 4.5 hours of listening time on a single charge (with ANC enabled) and up to 24 hours with the charging case. The case itself is also compatible with Qi wireless charging, making it easy to keep your earbuds charged on the go.

Overall, the AirPods Pro are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a high-quality pair of wireless earbuds with advanced features like ANC and customizable fit. While they are on the pricier side, the combination of sound quality, ease of use, and features make them a great value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Noise Cancellation is awesome!

I also own the “Sony - WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise-Cancelling Over-the-Ear Headphones - Midnight Blue” which are touted as being the best for noise cancellation; that stated, the AirPods Pro 2 are sometimes better on certain sounds. And because of the size of them and how quickly they charge up and how easy they are to pair to your Apple devices - I haven’t used my Sony’s since I got these. I highly recommend them for anyone using an Apple iPhone, iPad, iPad Pro, MacBook, Mac Mini, or Apple TV 4K as I have used them with all of the above and they work great and it’s practically magic when you switch to a different Apple device. The Spatial Audio is also top notch. It has frequently made me question of a sound was occurring on the show I was watching or actually in my house. I also wear them while going to sleep, they fall out while sleeping cause I practically do CrossFit in my sleep or something as I often find my pillows on the other side of the room. But they are excellent in blocking out all noise so you can fall asleep easily and comfortably (seriously, you can barely feel them)

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely an Upgrade over the AirPods Pro 1
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 2, 2022
Style: EarbudsVerified Purchase
Let me start off by saying, I LOVED my AirPods Pro Gen 1’s. Like immensely. I would’ve taken the AirPods Pro 1 over the AirPods Maxes, AirPods 3’s, Bit Fit Pros, XM4’s, anything. Everything that I loved about the original AirPods Pro is capitalized upon with the 2’s and improved greatly. Now that’s not to say that that’s a bad thing for the original AirPods, as I only realized most of the grievances I had with them AFTER I got and used the Pro 2’s. Starting with the sound quality, it’s an obvious improvement. Like…. By a lot. I’m noticing a lot of bass and lows in songs that I was not able to notice with the original AirPods, along with the tones sounding more…. Separated? I’m no audiophile so I’m not sure if that’s the correct term, but the best way to describe it is that you can hear and pick out all the individual instruments and tones much easier than on the original AirPods Pro. Again, the sound quality was never really a problem for me on the 1’s, but it’s lovely that they would include that as an upgrade. I’ll shift gears for a sec and talk about the case now. The Lanyard Loop? For me personally, it’s arbitrary. My front left pocket is almost always reserved for my AirPods, and when they’re not in my pockets, they’re in my backpack or in my room. That being said, however, the addition of the U1 Chip to the case was an absolutely fantastic idea. I can’t say how many times I would have my AirPods in, throw the case down somewhere in my house or in my room, and then spend an hour looking for the case when I was done listening to whatever. The U1 Chip functions exactly like an AirTag, implementing a chime to get you to the general location of the Pods, and then precision finding to track down exactly where in the couch cushions you lost the case. The last thing about the case, and this was probably just a defect with my model, is that with the 1’s there was a massive issue with the right bud not contacting with the pad inside the case and either not charging or not being recognized as being in the case… that’s gone now. Everything works as a charm as you would expect. Going back to the Pods now. First up, to just get it out of the way, Haptic Touch for sound control? Big yes. I know for a lot of people that not having direct sound control on the AirPods was a gripe, but that’s no longer an issue as you can just swipe up or down to adjust the volume to move in intervals, equivalent to tapping the volume button on your phone. Will definitely be using that a lot when I am on the move and don’t feel like getting my phone out of my pocket or awkwardly trying to press the volume button on my phone through my pant leg. And, finally, perhaps the most important new piece of hardware for the 2’s, the H2 Chip. Again, I never had an issue with ANC or Transparency on my AirPod Pro 1’s. With ANC on, listening to music with the 1’s would be a completely immersive experience and I would not be able to hear anything from the outside world. That’s even better with the 2’s. Just like the 1’s, static sound waves (like humming, vibrating, etc.) is completely gone and unable to hear. Other than that, voices and general noises passing through ANC with the 2’s is…. Amazing. In a cafeteria or busy area, if I just have ANC on with no music playing, I am able to recognize that people are talking, but it’s more like whispering than actually talking. With ANC AND Music playing? No chance. All I hear is the music. And then you switch to transparency and you’re like “Uh… What just happened?”. It’s this big rush of realization that there was so much more going around you than you thought there was and makes you realize how good the ANC actually is. Speaking of transparency, I have no issues with it. It continues to be the best transparency mode on the market for any wearable earbuds, and completely emulates the feeling of not having anything in your ears. I have not gotten to try out or test the adaptive transparency as advertised as a selling point of the 2’s, but if I do I will edit this post with my feelings about it. Overall, just like the original AirPods to the AirPods Pro 1’s, I do believe the 2’s are worth the upgrade from the 1’s. The Sound Quality, H2 Chip, U1 Chip, Case Features… they all just work so seamlessly and I could not have asked for anything more from Apple. (Well, besides USB-C but you know.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, not great.

Prior to the purchase of the AirPods, I tried and returned a pair of JBL earbuds. They were a bit too edgy and forward for my taste. One thing that came with the JBLs was an almost perfect app. Every aspect that one could wish for was available, including a very adjustable EQ system.

The Apple AirPods Pro Gen 2 are more expensive than the JBL options. Whereas the JBLs were too bright for my taste, the AirPods are laid back a bit, but with a natural octave to octave balance. They actually remind me of some Shure stage monitor buds that I owned years ago. Unlike the Shure and certainly the JBLs, the AirPods seem lacking in what I would describe as state of the art transient response, that is the ability to reproduce the leading edge of transients such as percussion, drums, brass, acoustic guitar and strings. The AirPods seem slightly dulled in comparison and boosting the treble doesn't restore it.

The other issue I have with the AirPods is the inability to access blue tooth on/off, a comprehensive set of EQ controls, etc., all in one app. Instead, you must go to Settings on your iPhone to access controls for noise reduction, auto ear detection, spatial audio, charging features. But to access EQ to change bass, treble balance, you must use Apple music for sourcing playback. The EQ controls had no effect on Amazon Music, as an example.

As for noise cancellation, the AirPods do an excellent job, provided you're not active. They become loose when doing such activities as mowing the lawn, where you would wish to use noise cancellation. Apple is selling AirPods by the millions, I'm sure. But as a useful product to easily use in a wide variety of environments, I consider them a fail for my purposes. They certainly don't provide control flexibility that most audiophiles would wish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Air Pods

Great air pods !! I wanted a pair of headphones that wouldn't fall off when I go running or work out at the gym. This product came with 3 different earbud sizes that you can easily adjust. I love how easy it is to adjust the size to best fit your ear. Wear these air pods is definitely a game changer and such great quality. It doesn't take long to charge the air pod case and start listening to music right away. I use it all the time! Also, another great feature of the air pods is the noise-canceling option. When I put them on, I cannot hear any other noises at the gym or even outdoors. IT IS SO COOL! Sometimes it can be a little scary not hearing anything so you can turn off this option if it doesn't work for you. Overall, these air pods are a great quality and will last me a long time.

I recently purchased this AirPods from Amazon, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. These earbuds have completely changed my listening experience, and I'm so glad I made the switch from traditional wired headphones. The sound quality is simply amazing. I love listening to music, and the AirPods provide a truly immersive audio experience. The bass is deep and rich, and the vocals and instruments are crystal clear. I was also pleasantly surprised with how well the AirPods blocked out external noise – I was able to enjoy my music without any distractions.
Overall, I highly recommend the AirPods to anyone looking for a high-quality wireless earbud experience. They are stylish, comfortable, and provide amazing sound quality. I'm so glad I made the switch and will never go back to wired headphones again. Thank you, Apple, for creating such an incredible product!

I was looking for a pair of AirPods because I have an iPhone and I was debating which pair to get. After much deliberation I decided to get this pair. I have had the original air pods pro and enjoyed them but the fit wasn’t that good.

This pair fit my ears right out of that box and and was actually really comfortable. This was nice because most of the other squishy ear buds don’t stay in my ears very well.

My favorite feature so far is the transparency mode because it allows me to hear everything around me while I’m listening to music so I can walk down the street safely.
Sad to say my least favorite feature is the noise canceling mode because it doesn’t work as well as Apple claims. I can still hear a great deal of what’s going on around me though it is muted quite a bit. I do still like this feature when I’m on the phone in a noisy area. Or watching TikTok’s on my lunch breaks.

Over all my experience has been good and I can’t wait to see what they do in the future.
